The church in Whangarei is our description - not our name. As such, it's an inclusive title, not an exclusive one. We gather together simply as believers of the Lord in this city, and we receive as our brothers and sisters all who believe in Jesus Christ. Likewise, we warmly welcome guests and visitors who are not Christians.
When we meet together on the Lord's Day (Sunday), we practice to have a mutual meeting where all are welcome to function. The first part of our meeting is to have the Lord's Table which the Lord Jesus instructed us to do this in remembrance of Him until He returns. By partaking of the bread and the wine which are symbols they remind us to partake of the Lord who is the reality of these symbols by enjoying Him in our Spirit. They remind us that the Lord died and resurrected for us and as the Spirit comes into us to be our life and everything. They remind us that we have been created for the Lord's purpose. We enjoy mutually praising the Lord, praying, singing hymns and speaking of the Lord in this part of the meeting remembering that the Lord is the focus!
The second part of the meeting is called the prophesying meeting which is in accordance with 1 Cor 14. To prophesy is not merely to predict but to speak for the Lord just as Aaron was Moses' prophet. Paul said in 1 Cor 14:4 that he who prophesies builds up the church. In verse 26 Paul says whenever you come together, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation, Let all things be done for building up. "Has" in verse 26 means that you possess it. There is some labour required. We can all labour during the week to enjoy the Lord in the word and bring our top enjoyment to the meeting to share for the building up of the church, the believers. In verse 31 Paul states that you can all prophesy one by one that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
We warmly welcome you to come and join our time of praise, worship and fellowship.
We also have other times of fellowship during the week that you are welcome to join.
